Frequently Asked Questions

The regulations look wrong for my location. What should I do?

First, check that your zone is set correctly using the zone pill at the top of the screen. If you believe a regulation is out of date, always defer to the official NY DEC website at dec.ny.gov — regulations can change mid-season by emergency order.

GPS isn't detecting my zone. What can I do?

Go to your iPhone Settings → Fish Right NY → Location and make sure location access is set to "While Using the App." You can also tap the zone pill at the top of the screen to select your zone manually at any time.

Does the app work without an internet connection?

Yes. All regulation data is bundled with the app. You do not need a network connection to use any feature except tapping links to the DEC website.

How current is the regulation data?

Regulation data is updated with each app release. For species with volatile limits (Striped Bass, Summer Flounder, Black Sea Bass), the app includes a notice to verify with the DEC before fishing, as those rules can change by emergency order mid-season.

I found an error in the app. How do I report it?

Use the "Write a Review" option on the App Store listing to leave feedback, or contact us through the App Store developer contact link. We take accuracy seriously and appreciate reports.
